What is the Scarecrow Festival?
The Scarecrow Festival and Antique Fair is one of Nova Scotia’s most unique family festivals and features over 250 handmade scarecrows, a candlelit pumpkin path, children’s events and live entertainment, and a huge antique fair. Come and celebrate our 23rd year with us! Does it cost anything to attend? It is free thanks to our generous Sponsors and through the hard work of our volunteers. There is a small cost to attend the Antique Fair and a suggested donation for the children’s activities. We appreciate any donations you wish to make! What can the kids do? One of the highlights of the festival is strolling through our beautiful town to see all of the handmade scarecrows and displays. The kids will love the live entertainment on Main St. on Saturday and Sunday. Crafts and activities are also available at Tummy To Mummy Kids Shop, The Mahone Bay Museum and the Calvary Crossroads Church. Where can I eat? Mahone Bay is home to many wonderful restaurants, café’s and coffee shops and during the festival there are several additional food venues available. The Legion will have a canteen set up for sandwiches and soup, the Lions Club will have a BBQ for hot dogs and hamburgers and a few restaurants will feature outdoor BBQ’s and quick food to go. |
Where can I see the Scarecrows?
The Scarecrows are on display throughout town and can be seen on front lawns, local businesses and shops. When do the scarecrows get set up? The Scarecrows are set up a few days before the festival starts, depending on weather. How long are the scarecrows on display? The Scarecrows are on display for 2 weeks, weather depending. Can I buy a Scarecrow for my business or yard? The Scarecrows are not for sale, however they are really fun to make and we encourage everyone to make their own. The Scarecrows on display were made by our local artists, craftspeople and clothing designers. Many of the outfits were hand sewn, the faces were painted by working artists and the scarecrows were built by our committee members and volunteers. Our local businesses are encouraged to build their own each year. Where can I park? There are many places to park in Mahone Bay. Along our residential streets, in the Public Parking Areas on Edgewater St, Main St. and at the Mahone Bay Center, The Legion and the churches and RPS. Please do not leave your pets in the car as the sun can shift quickly and your animal can overheat in just 5 minutes. Do you have another question not listed here? Contact us!
